In 2001 Ustica Lines Spa, a well-known shipping company in the high speed ferry field, established its subsidiary company TRISTE LINES Srl, with the aim of opening a new hydrofoil link between Trieste and Pola (Croatia).

The initiative was received with great enthusiasm and in 2002 the route was extended to Parenzo and Rovigno, two Istrian tourist locations, this satisfied the needs of both the local population and tourists, particularly those from Russia.

In 2003 the Friuli Venezia Giulia regional government started a procedure at the European Commission for Transport in Brussels with the purpose of defining and issuing a law regarding maritime connections in the Istrian region.  Only in 2007 the required authorization finally arrived and the regional government was able to open the competitive Tender, which was won by TRIESTE LINES Srl.

The route reopened with fresh commitment and enthusiasm on 24 April 2008 using the hydrofoils ‘Cris M’ and ‘Fiammetta M’, Type RHS 160 F DSC.

Following governmental authorization, the route Trieste -Portrose – Rovigno - Parenzo was re-activated in 2010 with the hydrofoil "Fiammetta M".

For the 2011 season, the port of Parenzo is substituted by the port of Pula.
